Eyedress - Sensitive G
Eyedress, the nom de plume of Filipino musician Idris Vicuña, is a good indication of the type of oddities you can expect from the form Bee Eyes guitarist. Following the style perpetrated by his previous band, indie rock with space-age guitars, Vicuña takes his sounds a step further with psychic vocals and the use of loop pedals, often sampling the song he’s performing and layering the sounds on top of each other like a club sandwich from the Moon.
Inspired by hip-hop, psychedelic and pop, his latest album Sensitive G occupies the same vein a Tame Impala, most notably with its focus on the idea of “less is more.” There is an intangible feeling of being bound by Sensitive... a feeling emphasised by thick, viscous bass lines and Vicuña’s spectral whine. Seemingly taking great pleasure in subverting the norm, Vicuña tinkers with traditional sounds, manufacturing them to sound wider and drier. The result is a chilled out funk fest, lined with twists, turns and liquified beats. Weird enough to stand on its own feet without alienating the public, Sensitive G is for the traveller who likes not knowing what to think and is merely enjoying the ride. Tune in and chill out.
