The Fugues - Lady In Pink

The Fugues - Lady In Pink

They say that good things inevitably come to those who wait. I don’t particularly care for ‘they’ but it seems to be the correct line of thinking for fans of indie rock quartet The Fugues. After an extended period of relative silence, 2018 saw a welcome return for the four-piece who look to continue their banging momentum with their latest release ‘Lady In Pink.’

Fans of the group will recognise their trademark airy bounce in the percussion of drummer AJ Lynn that takes centre stage for the first 20 seconds before frontman Kaelan Powers swings into action. The bubbly, warm vibes continue throughout LIP’s sophisticated mix of mature pop sentiments and indie rock sting. Licks drip with naughties nostalgia, and the crafty chorus is shrewdly sing-alongish.

A quintessential indie rock jam, from the relatable, day to day lyrics (“Find other things to do, than sipping coffee in the afternoon”), to the catchy intonation, to the sneakily heavy breakdown that forms the conclusion of this tune. Another solid output for the young rockers who hope to make 2019 another year to remember.
